Library Scanning & Watched Folders

SG Music Library builds your library by scanning Watched Folders — one or more folders on disk that you point it at from Preferences.

Managing watched folders

  • Add Folder… opens a folder picker; the chosen folder (and everything under it) is scanned recursively for supported audio files (.mp3, .flac, .m4a, .wav).
  • Remove Selected stops watching a folder. Tracks already in your library from that folder are left alone until the next scan.

Scan behaviour

Two independent options control when scanning happens:

  • Scan watched folders on startup — rescans everything each time you open the app.
  • Background rescan every N minutes — periodically rescans in the background while the app is open, so new files you add to a watched folder show up without needing to reopen the app. The interval is configurable from 5 to 720 minutes.

Scanning is designed to find every supported file currently on disk each time it runs, so renamed, moved, or newly-added tracks are picked up automatically — you don't need to manually tell the app about changes on disk.
