Getting Started

SG Music Library is available for Windows, Linux, and Android. Grab whichever you need from the downloads page.

Windows

Install from the single setup file — SGMusicLibrary-Setup-<version>.exe — built with Inno Setup. It installs entirely under your own user account (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\SG Music Library), so no administrator rights are needed.

  1. Download the latest installer.
  2. Run it and follow the prompts. You can optionally create a desktop shortcut during setup.
  3. Launch SG Music Library from the Start Menu or your desktop shortcut.

Linux

Two options, same app either way:

  • .deb (Installer) — for Debian/Ubuntu and derivatives. Installs system-wide with a proper applications-menu entry: sudo apt install ./sgmusiclibrary_<version>_amd64.deb (or sudo dpkg -i the file directly).
  • AppImage (Portable) — works on most distros, no installation step. Download it, mark it executable (chmod +x SGMusicLibrary-<version>-x86_64.AppImage), and run it directly.

Android

SG Music Library isn't on the Play Store — install the APK directly:

  1. Download the APK.
  2. Android will likely warn about installing from an unknown source the first time; you'll need to allow it for whichever app you used to open the file (browser, file manager, etc.).
  3. Open the installed app.

The Android app is a full local library manager and player in its own right — Library, Favourites, Playlists, and Now Playing all work the same way as on Windows/Linux, scanning music stored on the device. It can also browse and stream from a paired desktop's library — see Remote Pairing & Streaming to set that up.

First launch

On first launch your library is empty.

  • Windows/Linux — open Preferences and add one or more Watched Folders, the folders on disk where your music lives.
  • Android — open the Library tab and add individual files or a folder to watch, via the menu there.

Either way, SG Music Library scans what you've added and builds your library automatically. Supported audio formats are MP3, FLAC, M4A, and WAV.

Once the scan finishes, your tracks appear in the main table/list and sidebar/tabs, organised by Artist, Album, Genre, and Year.
